EVEREST BASE CAMP TREK (LUKLA)18 DAYS
All shades of emerald, sapphire, and moonstone in the alpine forests, hard-as-crystal skies, and milky rivers. From feasting you eyes on soft rhododendrons to squinting against the bright, white light of the snow mountains. Everest and surrounding peaks towering over you as look to prayer flags fluttering over stony trails, and the largest Buddhist monastery in Nepal. Spunky, apple-cheeked little children and thoughtful, hospitable adults. Silence, only broken by the occasional deer or pheasant. Nothing compares to being in the Everest region.

Situated on the banks of the Dudh Kosi, which drains the whole of the Khumbu Region, this small hamlet is on the main trade route through the area and there are a number of clean, well-built lodges where we can spend the night

Lukla - Namche Bazaar: after the breakfast in the Lodge in Luckla we will continue up the banks of the Dudh Kosi, crossing it twice by small suspension bridges before reaching the village of Monjo where we will enter the Khumbu National Park. We will then cross the confluence of the Dudh Kosi and the Bhote Kosi on a high suspension bridge and climb steeply for about two hours up 'Namche Hill' to reach Namche Bazaar (3,400m/11,155ft). This is a prosperous trading town and the capital of the Khumbu Region. Many Tibetans cross the nearby border to trade their wares and the local market is a fascinating spectacle. This is a good place to buy genuine Tibetan artefacts. Just across the valley to the east stand the peaks of Thamserku and Kangtega, both very impressive mountains dinner and overnight in Namche Bazaar
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
5 Day . Namche Bazaar - Aclimatizing Day: Namche Bazaar is a village lying at the junction of the Dudh Koshi and a lateral valley that leads to frontier pass of Nangpa La 5500 meters. It is tucked away in a "bowl" at a height of 3440 meters. The first Europeans entered it in 1950 and many more have come since then. However, the basic character of the village remains unchanged. It has an airplane landing strip high above and a temple with a stream of clear water flowing past it. Prayer flags, inscribed with words "Om mani padme hum" flutter from every rooftop and every house has a cottage industry where Yak wool is spun and woven into carpets. Facilities like a bank, a post office, hotels and shops where one can purchase climbing equipment as well as tinned food have sprung up over the years. Namche Bazaar is the major regional training center, and contains the headquarters of the Sagamartha (Nepalese for Everest) National Park. There is plenty to do around Namche Bazaar and a day should be spent here acclimatizing
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
6 Day: Namche Bazaar - Thengboche: after the breakfast in we will start with trekking. Today you will find to be very exciting as you officially make your journey up the Everest valley. Walking for about 5 hours directly underneath majestic peaks with Mt. Everest in the distance as your guide. Stop for tea, the trail winds along the top of the valley offering incredible views. At lunchtime you will drop down to the river for a wonderful lunch at the village of Phunki. This will be your last blast of rich air before making your way up to the top of the hill to Tengboche. Upon arrival in Tengboche you may arrive in time for a tour of the monastery. If not, catch the monks in the morning for a chant. You are welcome to go inside the monastery and join in with the monks magical chants
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Our uphill trek continues, taking us to the quaint traditional Sherpa village of Dingboche with its exquisite views of Lhotse, Island Peak, and Ama Dablam. dinner and overnight at Dingboche 4410ms
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
8 Day . Dingboche - Chunkung or Nangkharsang Gompa - Dingboche: after the breakfast walk up to the valley for a wider variety of photos of the valley and mountains of the Khumbu region. Today take in the acclimatization hike to the village of Chunkung. There is not much up here for a village. There are only a couple of homes. Mainly occupied in the summer months for potatoe gardens and yak grazing. Mingma from Namche's daughter runs a home up here. You will enjoy a high altitude lunch in her home and lay low for the afternoon on her deck getting your body used to the altitude while taking in the stunning views of Lhotse and the backside of Mt. Ama Dablam. A rare opportunity, not many groups make it up this way. Only climbers attempting Island Peak make it up this valley. In the Afternoon you return to Dingboche for the night
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
9 Day .Dingboche - Lobuche: In the morning we ascend the small ridge behind the village above the Pheriche valley. From the chorten at the top, Taweche and Cholatse (6440m) make for a striking scene as they seem to lean forwards from across the valley in the west. To the north, Lobuje Peak (6119m) and the snowfields of the Cho La dominate the skyline. The walking is now generally fairly flat on wide-open fields, but do take your time and ensure you are well hydrated. Late in the morning we cross the Khumbu Khola at Dughla (4620m) and take a light lunch at the foot of the huge terminal moraines of the Khumbu Glacier flowing off Everest. In the afternoon, there is a solid and quite steep climb on a rocky trail to the top of the moraine. On the crest of the ridge, you pass a line of memorial cairns, built in memory of the Sherpas and climbers who have died on various Everest expeditions over the last 50 years. From here the view is spectacular, Pumori (7145m) Lingtren (6697m), Khumbutse (6623m), and across the border in Tibet, Changtse (7550m) are seen at the head of the valley, whilst Everest is hidden behind the towering walls of Nuptse and Lhotse. We then follow the valley stream to our lodge at Lobuje, arriving early afternoon. Today is a tiring day but the fantastic scenery makes it all very worthwhile
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
10 Day . Lobuche – Kalapatter – Gorak Shep: After an early rise have a short trek to Gorak Shep where we will have breakfast and some tea before beginning the walk up to Kala Pattar. (5545m)A gradual ascent enables you to build the slow, steady rhythm required when walking at high altitude. From the lodge the ascent is quite steep, so start very slowly and try to ascend at steady rhythmic pace. Our goal Kala Patar, is the rocky hilltop below Pumori. It is a tough walk, but the view from the top surpasses the wildest imagination. It will probably take a good hour and a half to reach the summit from Gorak Shep, although lower viewpoints will provide views almost as good. Pumori, Nuptse, Changtse, Ama Dablam, Taweche, Kantega and Everest - the highest mountain in the world, and some 200 metres below, the area of the Everest Base Camp can be seen in a bowl at the bottom of the Khumbu Ice Fall. For many trekkers, reaching Kala Pattar is a very emotional experience and it is worthwhile spending as long as you wish to savour this special moment. The descent back down to Gorak Shep evening we camp beneath Kala Pattar at Gorak Shep
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
13 Day: Lobuche -Pangboche: From Lobuje we re-trace our steps to Dughla: it seems much quicker and easier going down! From here we take a different route from our ascent, following the wide alpine valley covered in scrub juniper through to the temporary settlement of Phulung Karpo (4343m), and then to Pheriche. There is also a Trekkers' Aid Post here, supported by the Himalayan Rescue Association which, although not manned year round, is well worth a visit if open. From Pheriche we cross the Khumbu Khola and ascend a short steep trail to the top of a small ridge for great views of the Imja valley, Ama Dablam and Kantega. We then descend to the small settlements at Orsho and Shomare, and then to Lower Pangboche to our Lodge
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
14 Day: Pangboche - Namche Bazaar: After breakfast we descend steeply through beautiful forest of juniper, rhododendron and fir to Thyanboche and then down again to Phunkitenga. After a welcome break and perhaps a cup of tea we cross the Dudh Kosi, and ascend to Trashinga. From here the trail contours high above the valley through Sanasa, before returning to Namche Bazaar where we spend the night
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
15 Day: Namche Bazaar – Phakding: We enjoy a leisurely departure from Namche Bazaar with a final opportunity to visit the shops in the bazaar before we descend steeply down to the large suspension bridge over the Dudh Kosi.
